I thought I would start off my blog with some humor. I heard someone say to treat social media as if you were going to a party. Would you enter a room, start mingling with people and immediately start hacking your product? Hopefully not. Ideally, you would simply start to engage with people and get to know them. Of course, if you go to the corner of the room and become a fly on the wall, what’s the point of being there?
I embraced social media by simply being myself. I didn’t have a product to sell. I was going through a transition in my real estate career and started conversations with people I didn’t know. I read their blogs and tweets. I started going to local tweetups and met some very talented people in the South Florida technology community.
Because of my personal blog and my obsessive search for information about online marketing and social media for my personal projects, I ended up with a job in Social Media. It was totally unexpected. So here I am now, creating this blog to create a place to give tips on what I have learned. It took me thousands of hours to learn many of the blogging features in wordpress and the myriad of Social Media Platforms. The learning is endless.
If you saw the video, Tip #1 don’t tweet or converse in cyberspace after a couple of drinks. Social Media can be fun, but be aware of how you present yourself. You never know who is looking at you.
I found the link of the video through a twitter friend. Unfortunately, I did not write it down. So, Tip #2, good netiquette is to give attribution to the person that found the link. I will attempt to do so in this blog.
