David Bisset, one of the main organizers of the event is also doing a great job of posting links on the Wordcamp Miami site of blog posts that many attendees have written.

Yesterday Word Camp Miami was held at the University of Miami School of Communications. It was great to meet so many talented people that I have seen on twitter.   Here are some pictures from the event and after party. Robert Dempsey (@nonmarketer) posted some detailed notes from the event. I was impressed with the wealth of knowledge from all the presenters.

After the Wordcamp Miami event, a few of us went to Brickell for an after party and I gave a ride to Aaron Brazell(@technosailor), Michael Torbert(@michaeltorbert), Steve Mortiboy( @wpsmort) and Tristan Spill (@tristanspill) to South Beach.

Aaron recently released his Word Press Bible published by Wiley. This book’s title is reflective of the contents. It is a must read book and reference book for any beginner or advanced Wordpress enthusiast. I didn’t get the chance of getting my book signed during Wordcamp and luckily it was sitting in my car.   The lighting thing was totally spontaneous and not staged.  And don’t forget to buy the book!

I’ve been using this Firefox extension for a few months now and am loving the ease to bookmark interesting articles or resources to my delicious account. It wasn’t until I added an automatic update that I stumbled on this video. Shareaholic allows you to easily email, blog and share to numerous Social Media platforms.

I was only using it for Delicious bookmarks. Bookmarking on Delicious has been a great tool to put everything in one place. And now I am sharing what someone else shared. This guy took the time to make a video of it, upload it to you tube. It all takes time…but as they say, “Sharing is Caring”, and for me that what Social Media is all about.

I just saw this video (via @tweetmeme) and blog post of a cool app that lets you send a voicemail to a twitter friend. Having connected with so many twitter friends all over the world and reading their blogs, unless they have video, I really have never heard their voice.

I remember when I saw a video for the first time of a twitter friend whom I have connected a lot, I had imagined her voice to be totally different. It was nice because it added a different layer to the connection.

Apparently the link is sent to your twitter friend’s email. It doesn’t say whether you actually receive a tweet for others to see the audio. So, as the video demonstration states, use caution in your messages. And talking about caution, always think before you tweet or what you put out on the internet. It’s great to be spontaneous, but not look like a fool.

A group of technology and social media professionals attended Crisis Camp Miami last Saturday. Here is the local Facebook Fan Page for additional resources.

It is part of a Nationwide Crisis Camp that assists in disseminating information via technology and social media during times of Crisis. And with the devastation in Haiti, many are reaching out to support this cause in many cities around the world.

Sushi Samba Tweetup

Sushi Samba held a Social Media event on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach Tweetup. It was marketed nationwide in several cities in the United States.  Tweetups are a great way to make new connections. Sushi Pro partnered with them to promote the event.  @sushi_pro

The set up was in the restaurant bar area. Some people sat in separate tables. The regular twitterers made an effort to meet new people. Sushi Samba also had a big screen connected to Tweetdeck. This allowed us to see the tweetstream with the hashtag #sushitweetup.

As always, it was a great time and the food was delicious. We were given a $10 gift certificate for next visit and there was a special menu price for attendees.

What a year it was eh?  The beginning of the year is a good time to look back, but mainly look forward. Social Media has played a huge role in my transition for work.

It really is all in your fingertips. All you have to do is click on the keyboard and do some searching. That is how I started off. I searched to figure out things first, then I discovered amazing connections online. It can be real for you. So dive in 2010 and let it rip…start communicating!
